Masks, false faces, and sacred healing in performance and ceremony are powerful reminders of our private/invisible selves.

In our Houdenoshoune confederacy, we use masks in both public performance and private ceremonies. In Cayuga language, a ceremonial mask or can be called a Gagöhsa' ('a face') or 'hodígöhsósga’ah in Seneca language refers to a masked doctor's dance and translates to 'nothing but faces'. Our ability to take on another form, or hide our face as part of our spiritual practice, is part of a deep tradition. We honor being a part of a community and we honor our shadow self. Crypto communities continue to define what privacy and transparency are and continue to realize the protocols to guard and protect our faceless practices in artistic, contractural and community protocols. I am drawn to the crypto community because it reminds me of my early encounters on the internet when I could be a part of something greater than myself and also honor the dignity in the shadows.
